Geophysical survey for the characterisation of the soil carried out in collaboration with the CRA research centre of Florence, a project directed by Dr. Costantini Edoardo. In 2014, the complete research was published as the book “Beyond the zoning- three years of study at the Brolio Castle” by E. Costantini, Edizione Polistampa, which also includes the investigation carried out by SO.IN.G.
A quote from Francesco Ricasoli, president of Barone Ricasoli SpA “… this study shows how the strong soil characterisation and differentiation in the company in Brolio reflects the various types of soils present within the Chianti Classico appellation area. These varied facets of our territory demonstrate the extraordinary expressive possibilities of its main wine varietal which is Sangiovese and it is only through a constant growth of knowledge that we can respect, enhance and ensure our wine is unique and “sublime”, as it was called by Baron Bettino Ricasoli in the nineteenth century” and he continues concerning an extremely important consideration “I would also like to remind you that the data we received during the research, among other things made it possible to plan and manage the interventions of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the vineyard in a more targeted manner, such as a more targeted preparation of the soils for tillage and the most suitable drainage, an effective pest management which is more compatible with an “organic” type of agronomic management and an appropriate ecological balance”.
